This extraordinary coffee from Yemen is positioned as the King of Specialty Coffees, suitable for the most demanding coffee lovers and enthusiasts.
Yemen’s Harazi coffee comes only from the Haraz Mountains, an ancient coffee-growing region in the isolated northwestern highlands. The coffee is grown at very high altitudes and the beans have a particularly hard density. The elevation of the region’s farmlands ranges from 4500 feet to a staggering 9000 feet. The flavor is intense and characteristic of the best Mocha coffee that Yemen can offer.
This coffee is produced by small farmers in the high mountains of the western governorate of Sana’a in Yemen. Coffee-farming families in this part of Yemen, like many others across the country, tend terraced plots of land that have been handed down through many generations. Coffee is the only crop that continues to outlast all the others, both for the sustenance it provides and because it is a profound social tradition that holds communities together. “Harazi” is a terroir-distinguishing term, similar to “Kona”, which refers to high-quality coffee varieties produced in the unique climate and soil of Yemen’s western Haraz Mountains, long considered one of the best growing regions of coffee in the country and home to some of the most experienced producers. All Harazi coffee is processed naturally: hand-picked, selected for texture, and dried in a single layer in full sun on raised beds or rooftops.
Yemen is the oldest coffee-growing territory in the world.
